DOKDO
This project was brought to life with the story of an island that has experienced many hardships. As well as the focus on the core of South Korea's beautiful nature and habitat for animals. It is a meaningful project where the performance harmonizes dance with restrained movements and the beautiful poetry created for this project.

Dokdo is a group of volcanic islets located in the East Sea of Korea. Though small and isolated, it holds immense historical, cultural, and ecological significance for the Korean people.
Dokdo has long been part of Korean territory, documented in historical records dating back to the 6th century. Despite political disputes, it remains a symbol of national pride and resilience.

Hello, my name is Dokdo.
Living on the Eastern sea of Korea, I am the first isle to be greeted by the Sun.
A formed environment for rare animals and natural gasses, hardened and formed by
A volcano eruption of a million years ago. Too barren for humans to inhabit.
My two main islets, eighty nine surrounding rocks, and I are called Dokdo.
Once in a blue moon, on a clear day, I may be fortunate to see my brother, Ulleungo
But this is a rarity for us isles.
My lonesome land and soul have always been cared for and accompanied by….
My hardened volcanic stones and soul have always been cared for and accompanied
By my Korean brothers and sisters, through the vast seas, we’ve endured all.
Throughout the years, many have called me of different names but those who called me
By my true name, breathed the harsh sea breezes, conquered the harsh nature, and
devoted themselves to me.
Now I want to tell them,
My name is Dokdo and I will repay my debt to those who have nurtured,
cared for, and named me.
My name is Dokdo and I will live up to my name.
I will and I must, answer to my owners call.

This project blends movement, poetry, and minimalism to embody Dokdo’s strength, silence, and identity. The performance becomes a quiet yet powerful voice for the island.
